About Me

Hello!
It’s been a while since my last “about me” post, so I thought I’d make an update including my skin tone and things like that for reference. So we’ll jump right into it!

My Personal Background

So, I’m going to get really real for a minute, which is kind of hard for me to do because I’m generally a pretty private person. To provide a little background information about me, I am 24 years old (I honestly forget my age sometimes) and I currently live in Texas in the USA with my boyfriend of 7 years (high school sweethearts). I am a dog mom to a 3 year old Siberian Husky named Nimbus- who I am completely obsessed with. Prepare for Nimbus spam.

He waits for me to get out of bed in the morning, then he slips in and steals my spot

I attended college briefly, majoring in Print Journalism. Unfortunately life happened, and I ended up leaving college to work full time. I plan on working towards going back to college, this time to pursue a degree in one of my other true loves, psychology. I wasn’t always the most obedient kid and had some bumps in the road in my school development, so I want to work in behavioral psychology and mentor troubled youth to help them go down the right path.

I have never had an official position as a makeup artist or official training in makeup, but from time to time I do makeup on clients for special occasions like Halloween, prom, banquets, and other events. I always feel like at some point I am destined to end up in a makeup oriented position, but it hasn’t happened for me that way so far. Everything I have learned about makeup has mostly been from personal experience and talking to the artists at my local MAC counter.

I am bi-racial, but was raised as Mexican American by my mother and her side of the family since my father and his family haven’t really had a part in my life (I think the last time my dad’s mom called me was when I was 2 and the last time my dad called me was 3 or 4 years ago to tell me he was getting married). I was raised by an incredible single mom who has become my best friend. Throughout my whole life, being bi-racial has affected me a lot more than I thought it did. It kind of created an identity crisis when the whole world sees you one way, but on the inside you feel another way. For the longest time, I dyed my hair black using box color because I, with light hair and pale skin, wanted to look more like my family, who mostly have dark hair with tanned skin. I have since come to the realization that it really doesn’t matter how people see me or don’t see me because I know who I am. Plus, it’s always really funny when people talk bad about me in Spanish thinking I don’t understand- the look of surprise on their faces when I retort back in Spanish is always priceless.

Some of my other hobbies outside of writing and makeup include reading (young adult novels are my guilty pleasure), shopping (of course), and traveling. I LOVE traveling and would do it more if I was able to. One of the places I visited most recently was New York, and I have been absolutely obsessed with New York ever since. I love the fact that when you are in New York, you are one out of 8 million people, all of whom are of different cultures, different backgrounds, and different life experiences. It’s a beautiful experience to be immersed in the hustle, bustle, and just the overall anonymity of the big city. My boyfriend and I also visit Austin, Texas frequently and plan on moving there someday soon. Some of the places on my travel bucket list that I haven’t been to yet are Australia, Hawaii, Alaska (for my husky), Italy, France, and countless more.

My Skin Tone/Beauty Details and Background

My skin tone is fair-light, leaning more on the fair side and I have very yellow undertones. My skin type is extremely oily all year ‘round and gets even oilier in the Texas summer. I have definitely been through the ringer trying all kinds of different techniques and products for oily skin, so I think that helps me offer some insight on oily skin beauty. In addition to oily skin, I also have acne prone skin with some on-set adult acne. Some of my skin care concerns include discoloration, redness (mostly in my cheeks), and sensitivity. I also have horrible allergies, so I’m usually sporting some pretty dark circles.

My hair color is naturally a medium brown, but as I mentioned earlier, I have really put my hair through the ringer. I’ve had red hair, black hair, and more recently I am now transitioning to a white/ashy blonde so it’s currently like a dirty blonde/dark blonde shade. When it comes to hair and hair color, I really can’t sit still for too long. Since I colored my hair black with box color for so long, going blonde has been about a 2 year process that I am taking very slow (with the help of my amazing hair stylist cousin) in order to prevent any damage. I use a deep conditioner about 2-3 times a week to keep my hair healthy and so far, so good! As far as my hair length, I usually keep it above shoulder length in a “Lob” or blunt style haircut. I have really thick and frizzy wavy hair that usually is more tame the shorter that my hair is.

My Beauty Influnces and Favorites

Some of my biggest beauty influences include Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Wood, and Sophia Loren. Some of my more recent beauty influences come from Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, NikkieTutorials, Meagan Fox (her eyebrows are everything), Alicia Keys (for my natural moments), Kat Von D, Olivia Culpo, and regardless of how I feel about them as people or reality personalities, there is no denying that the Kardashian/Jenner clan has pretty much helped pave modern makeup into what it is today.
Some of my favorite brands to use are MAC– they are the very first high end brand I ever tried at the age of 14, Kat Von D Beauty, Tarte, Too Faced, Anastasia Beverly Hills, NYX, and Urban Decay. It’s also worth noting that I’m a sucker for Kylie’s lip kits.

Final Thoughts

If you’re still with me, I’d like to thank you for reading! Looking back at this post, it seems a bit ramble-y, so if you read all of this you are the true MVP. My goal in doing this was to provide a little insight as to why I might have certain opinions or like/dislike certain products, so hopefully I was able to accomplish that. Above all, one of the things I really love is hearing other people’s stories and learning about what products they love and why, so my main goal of this blog is to start an open and interactive discussion about beauty or even life in general.
Thanks for reading!

Also, feel free to follow me on instagram! I follow back and am always happy to make new friends 😊

I could not find you on instagram or youtube:( I would be great to see you there, because for sure you could help a lot those ‚yellow ones’ ( like me) to match their undertone with the lipstick/ blush colors- or your comment section could support each other- just like here- I found some usegul responses:)

Firstly your eye liner is absolutely perfect, how!? What’s your secret? I can’t apply it and it makes me so sad because I think it could really suit me. Secondly, I loooove NYC too. I went last year for my birthday and I miss it so much (if only I could afford to study at NYU). And thirdly your dog is the cutest. I think I’m going to enjoy your blog a lot xo

      WOWwow. Thank you so much!!
The best eyeliner technique I’ve tried is using a gel liner (but one that is long lasting won’t smear off) paired with an angled brush. Then you lightly pull back your face by your eyebrows, and in one swift movement create a nice little slant on the corner of your eye. Then you just connect the wing back to the lash line and fill in the rest from there. I like this technique because the angled brush pretty much does all the heavy lifting for you!
You can always create a light line in pencil eyeliner to trace over with liquid liner, that’s what really helped me when I first started wearing eyeliner.
You should have seen the way my eyeliner looked when I first started wearing it! It was a mess. It just takes practice, you will get it down and you’ll be flying off to heaven with your new wings in no time 😂
I would absolutely love to study at NYU! I am jealous of people who are able too. Once NYC gets in your system, there’s no getting it out!
Thank you for saying my dog is cute! Maybe I’m not a crazy dog lady after all.
Thanks so much again, I can’t wait to dive into your blog as well!
